Q1: What are we using AI to do?

The following is a summary of our current AI usage in Cision and PR Newswire’s services.

  • to help us analyse and summarize large volumes of published articles or other public content and identify narratives (themes) that may emerge
  • to assist with the tagging, tracking, storing, and sorting public data sets
  • to help compose press releases, blogs, articles, and online/social media copy
  • for search assistance, query generation
  • to suggest images and video to accompany written content
  • to recommend relevant campaign and distribution strategies
  • to summarize key metrics in press release reporting
  • to help with the efficient distribution of customer content

These services are gated and so are only available to customers who have securely logged in to our platforms and under contractional safeguards.

Any personal data which may be included within data sets have come from either public data sets or from our customers and is incidental to our service provision.

None of our services will result in decision making which may have a significant, legal, financial or reputational impact on individuals and our AI outputs are reviewed by humans.

When customers engage directly with any of our AI product features, these features will be labeled as such.

We use a combination of our own in-house AI and third-party vendors for our product features.

Third party vendors include Google Gemini, Intercom chatbot, SoSha and OpenAI (CisionOne feature). The features powered by these vendors are currently optional for our customers to use.

Q2: Do you allow third-party AI vendors to use Customer Data to train or learning with?

No, we have opted not to allow this.

Q3: How long do third-party AI vendors keep the data we give them?

CisionOne: Vendors may keep data for up to 30 days for support/security purposes, unless legally required to retain it for longer.

PR Newswire: Pre-distribution press release and campaign data is never stored outside our systems.

  • Gemini AI is used exclusively within our SOC 2 compliant Google Cloud cluster. No customer information or prompt data leaves our secure storage nor is retained by Google.
  • For SocialBoost and social post creation powered by SoSha, information about your release is shared with SoSha but is not stored outside our systems.

Q4: Do third-party AI vendors share Customer Data with other users?

No, it is logically separated and kept within our container.

Q5: Who can view the customer data that we provide to third-party AI vendors?

Only our technical and customer support team members and third-party AI vendor teams may also review content for security or support reasons.

Q6: Can our customers choose to not use third-party AI vendors for their data?

Yes, customers can opt-out within Cision and PR Newswire’s platform through the User Admin interface or simply by not using the AI features when they are presented in the workflows.

CisionOne: AI features can be disabled for an organisation upon request either during onboarding or at any time during their service via Cision’s support team.

PR Newswire: All features using third party AI or LLMs are optional.

Q7: How do our customers request deletion of any of their data that we have given to third-party AI vendors?

Customers can request deletion of any data that they have provided to us or to a third-party AI vendor by emailing privacy@cision.com

CisionOne: Data is deleted after 30 days for all customers.

PR Newswire: No pre nor post-distribution data is stored with third-party vendors. Everything stays securely within our systems, for up to 7 years.
